Two Serie A clubs, Juventus and Inter Milan, are reportedly interested in signing Benfica left-back Alex Grimaldo on a free transfer next season.
Alex Grimaldo began his football career at the Valencia academy. However, he later moved to Barcelona to join his famous academy, La Masia.
Grimaldo graduated from the Barcelona academy and joined the reserve team. The left-back spent four years in the Barcelona subsidiary but failed to make his way into the senior team.
Finally, Grimaldo signed for the Portuguese Benfica for 1.5 million euros. He soon began to get regular chances and cemented his place in the starting eleven. The left back has won three Primeira Liga titles, 1 Taca de Portugal and 1 Taca da Liga and 3 Supertaca Candido de Oliveira titles so far.
Juventus and Inter in the race for Benfica Fullback
Now, according to a report by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marizio, Juventus and Inter Milan are interested in signing the left-back during the summer transfer window.
After dominating Serie A for over a decade, Juventus have failed to finish in the top three in their last two terms. And now they have had a very poor start to this season as well. The Bianconeri have only won five of their first eleven matches. They are currently in seventh position in Serie-A.
His performance in European competition is even poor. The Bianconeri have lost four of their opening matches. As a result, they have already been eliminated from the group stage.
Now the Juventus management understands this situation very well. they want to sign several players in the coming windows to strengthen many positions. One of them is the left side.
Juventus left-back Alex Sandro has clearly regressed in recent seasons. He will soon be a free agent. So Juventus are looking at a lot of left backs. Hence they are monitoring Alex Grimaldo.
Now Grimaldo is in the last year of his contract. He obviously is a very important player for the Benfica team and they want to extend him. But the 27-year-old defender is now considering leaving the club.
In addition to Juventus, another Serie A club, Inter Milan, is following the Spaniard. Inter tried to sign a new left in the very last window. They had an agreement with Barcelona on the transfer of Jordi Alba.
But the player wanted to stay in Barcelona and did not sign for Inter Milan. hence they are back on the market in search of a new left back. Meanwhile, the Spaniard really wants to play for his childhood club Barcelona.
