Jurgen Klopp Reacts to Darwin Nunez’s Shocking Miss vs Ajax

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested that even Darwin Nunez was shocked after the Uruguayan international lost a nanny during the Reds’ win over Ajax in the Champions League.

Liverpool faced Ajax in their last game in the Champions League, with the Merseyside side securing a 3-0 victory over the Dutch outfit. The win also meant that Liverpool sealed their place in the Champions League round of 16.

Liverpool opened the scoring through Mohamed Salah, who shot the ball over the Ajax goalkeeper after Jordan Henderson sent a delicious cross into the area.

The Reds came close to scoring their second and must have done so when Roberto Firmino passed the ball to Núñez, who had an empty goal in front of him. But the 23-year-old’s shot hit the post and he came back into play.

Speaking after the match, Klopp was asked about Nunez’s shocking miss. The Liverpool manager suggested that even Nunez was surprised to see him miss the goal after receiving the ball from Firmino.

However, Klopp insisted that Nunez had a good game against Ajax. “I think even he was surprised! He had a really good game in both directions, helped defend and played with a big heart today, so hopefully we got him out early enough! Klopp told BT Sport.

Núñez, however, would continue to redeem himself in the second half, scoring Liverpool’s second goal of the game. He got to the end of Andy Robertson’s corner kick and headed the ball into the net to make it 2-0 for Liverpool.

Meanwhile, the result of their game against Ajax sees Liverpool in second place in Group A with 12 points from five games. They are three points behind Napoli, who lead the group.
