Following news of Julio César Chávez Jr.’s arrest and indictment for illegal weapons possession, ESPN now reports that Chávez Jr. has posted his $50,000 bail and has been released from jail on the condition that he enter a residential treatment program .
Chavez Jr has now entered a program in Los Angeles, CA, according to his attorney Guadalupe Valencia, and will remain there at least until his next scheduled court date on February 15.
“We, as his legal team, as well as his father and other family members, care deeply about him,” Valencia told ESPN. “We, including the court, want him to receive professional help. “Julio is a tremendous person and now is his time to work on himself to be able to reunite with his children in the next chapter of his life.”
The Mexican legend’s son is currently facing three felony weapons charges as he was allegedly in possession of two AR-style weapons without serial numbers, also known as ghost guns.
Chavez Jr, 37, has not fought professionally since a victory in late 2021, which at least appears to have been the end of the road for his boxing career, although he never formally announced his retirement.
