Former Chelsea player Joe Cole has praised Gabriel Martinelli for his performances this season.

The Brazilian international has been one of the Gunners’ standout players this season. He has recorded three goals and one assist in eight Premier League appearances so far.

Speaking to BT Sport (h/t Metro), Cole said: “This is an outstanding footballer. I have loved it from the moment I saw it. He is so busy; he reminds me of Alexis Sanchez and Luiz Suarez. He is exceptional with the ball at his feet; he has great technique and affects the game. He works very hard, and I thought he was the ‘Man of the match’ in the North London derby (Saturday).

Sánchez and Suárez are among the best South Americans to have played in the Premier League.

Sánchez spent six seasons in the English top flight with Arsenal and Manchester United. He played 154 league games during his time in England, registering 63 goals and 31 assists. The Chilean international won the PFA Fans’ Player of the Season award in 2015.

For his part, Suárez was part of the Liverpool squad between 2011 and 2014. The Uruguayan international has made 110 Premier League appearances for the Merseyside outfit, registering 69 goals and 23 assists. He won the Premier League Player of the Season award in 2013-14.
