Jamie Carragher says Marcus Rashford could win the PFA Player of the Year award – Man United News And Transfer News

Jamie Carragher has praised Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford.

Speaking in his column for the Telegraph, the former Liverpool defender believes that if Rashford continues on his form, he could be in line to win the coveted PFA Player of the Year award, ahead of Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.

“Step aside, Erling Haaland. Marcus Rashford is currently producing performances from a complete Premier League striker. If votes were to be cast this week, the Manchester United attacker would surely get the most support from his teammates,” he wrote.

Having previously suggested that Rashford was not good enough to be United’s leader, Carragher says he is happy he has been proven wrong.

“When Rashford was struggling last season, I had my doubts that he had the ability to do what he’s doing now. It is my pleasure that all of those suspicions have been exposed as wrong and unfair where Rashford is concerned,” he wrote.

The former England defender went on to say that the United number 10 is on his way to becoming a true world-class player.

“If he reproduces this form season after season, he will deserve to be called world class,” he wrote.

Carragher feels the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo has allowed Rashford to blossom into the role of United’s go-to man, a role he now enjoys.

“When Ronaldo re-signed, it was inevitable that the other United forwards would be in his shadow. Rashford scored five goals in all competitions last season compared to 23 the year before. He’s already 27 on this one.”

United and Rashford are in talks over a new contract and Carragher says the records may fall into the hands of the Manchester-born striker if he stays at Old Trafford.

“If Rashford devotes his best years to United, it is likely that one day he will become the club’s record goalscorer, eclipsing the 253 scored by Wayne Rooney.” he wrote.

Erik ten Hag is hoping Rashford can win his run to be fit for the Carabao Cup final tomorrow (Sunday), after taking a knock in the outstanding midweek win against Barcelona.

United travel to Wembley in high spirits, desperate to end their six-year trophy drought in style.
