Jamie Carragher rues ‘shocking’ Liverpool reality as Reds suffer second league defeat

Jamie Carragher was unimpressed with his former club as they squandered a better first-half performance to go down a goal just before the half-time break.

The Scouser lamented Liverpool’s ‘defensive mess’ on Twitter in a game defined by poor organization and a repeat of the mistakes that have consistently plagued Jurgen Klopp’s men all season.

One can only imagine what the former defender was thinking as he watched the Reds constantly expose themselves down the right flank.

It’s hard to see where exactly Liverpool will go from here in light of the multiplicity of problems facing the team.

We can’t limit our concerns to training or an injury crisis; it seems that a more entrenched problem has left us in the lurch and the solution is clearly not easy to find.

The lack of our distinctive brand of intensity will no doubt lead the man to point fingers at the club’s owners and an apparent lack of investment in an aging team.

Fans would do well to call out the failure to tackle the middle of the park given that as many as three midfielders could leave us next summer, and that’s not taking into account the age of Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson.

A team makeover is needed, though it would be foolish to put all the blame on Fenway Sports Group.
