Jamie Carragher has revealed his dream squad for Liverpool in the Champions League round of 16.

The Reds qualified for the Group A Champions League round of 16. They finished second in Group A. The Merseyside side secured 15 points from six games in Group A but could only finish behind Napoli, who also has 15 points.

Given that Liverpool qualified for the round of 16 with a runner-up finish in Group A, they would ideally face one of the other seven group winners. But Liverpool’s potential opponents in the round of 16 have been whittled down to just four.

According to Champions League rules, Liverpool cannot face Manchester City, Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur in the Round of 16 as they are from the same country. That leaves Bayern Munich, Benfica, Porto and Real Madrid as potential opponents for Liverpool.

Carragher has revealed that he wants Liverpool to face Porto in the round of 16. He believes that Liverpool always seem to have a psychological advantage over Porto.

“I would like Liverpool to play Porto. We’ve played them a number of times in the past and I think psychologically we always seem to have the edge over them,” Carragher was quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo.

Carragher also warned that Liverpool will be a difficult proposition for any team after Christmas. “I think Liverpool will be a difficult proposition for anyone after Christmas. They are not in the races at the moment, but I think we will see Liverpool back at their best.”

Liverpool have been below average in the league so far this season and far from their best. They languish in ninth place in the Premier League points table with 16 points from 12 games.
