Jamie Carragher has agreed that a signing of the caliber of Jude Bellingham would be ‘fantastic’ for Liverpool, although he did admit that his old team need a player similar to Gini Wijnaldum.
The Merseysiders have been linked with a holding midfielder in Sofyan Amrabat and have enjoyed tentative links with other World Cup stars after bringing on Cody Gakpo from PSV.
“Jude Bellingham is a midfielder who likes to get ahead, score goals and provide assists, and it would be great if Liverpool could do that, but they need a Wijnaldum figure for the summer. This midfield is not what you expect or what Jurgen Klopp really wants,” the former Red told Sky Sports (via Express).
“It’s not just about certain players and a certain age, because the younger players are more technical than high energy. I’m talking about Harvey Elliott and [Fabio] Carvalho, it seems that Liverpool’s midfield does not have much energy.
“There is talk of looking to bring Jude Bellingham, why not? He’s a great player, but they also need another midfielder to help them defensively.”
The former number 5 enjoyed a trophy-filled few years with Jurgen Klopp’s men, although he was somewhat underestimated by some sections of the supporters during his time at Anfield.

Having a midfielder willing to pay his teammates’ tactical debts in midfield would certainly help.
There’s also the durability factor to consider given the unreliability of Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in that particular department.
Fundamentally, of course, we need someone capable of ticking Jurgen Klopp’s positional versatility box – ideally any signing should be able to at least come forward as number 6 and number 8 and help Liverpool control proceedings in the middle of the park.
As such, a low-key signing with Wijnaldum-like qualities that will undoubtedly go a long way toward resolving our current concerns.
