James Pearce issues Liverpool takeover update amid ongoing Qatar links

James Pearce has warned that the lack of Champions League football for Liverpool’s next term could have devastating consequences for the club this summer.

The extent to which such a scenario will genuinely affect the Reds’ ability to commit to the serious necessary squad surgery post-2022/23, of course, depends on whether ownership of the team changes hands.

The process is still ‘ongoing’, although it ‘could change rapidly’ as rivals Manchester United have discovered.

“Losing out the Champions League places this season would leave a sizeable hole in finances at a time when Liverpool’s rebuilding needs to be backed with plenty of cash. Securing a deal for top summer target Jude Bellingham would undoubtedly be much more difficult to pull off,” the reporter wrote for The Athletic.

“Who is going to pay the bill for what is required? Will Klopp have to lower his sights?

“A lot depends on what happens with the owners in the coming months. Fenway Sports Group has yet to receive the kind of offers it had hoped for Liverpool, but that process is ongoing and could change quickly. Uncertainty reigns.”

This update comes amid a credible report from Alex Miller on QIA talks with the club, although it is understood that an offer has not surfaced yet.

The key for Liverpool remains finding an investor or group willing to elevate us to a level comparable to financial giants like Manchester City and now Newcastle United.

We don’t necessarily have to go through the glass ceiling, although it will be a challenge to find people who are willing to move the club forward without going against our values.

Qatari interest, even from the private sector, will inevitably draw connections to disturbing human rights abuses locally and in the region, which we simply cannot support as another vehicle for washing sportswear in England’s top flight, REGARDLESS of benefits. such an association can bring.

That leaves a very small group within which we must operate, although we have full faith that the club is capable of attracting the right owner in the long term.
