‘It’s true…’ – Fabrizio Romano shares what he’s hearing about Liverpool-linked midfielder Messi says is ‘spectacular’

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the veracity of the claims about Liverpool’s interest in Enzo Fernandez, although he noted that “it would only take crazy things” to move the 21-year-old away from Benfica in January.

The Merseysiders are believed to be particularly interested in bolstering their midfield department in the upcoming winter window, although it seems highly unlikely that the former River Plate star will leave the Portuguese top flight anytime soon.

“About Enzo Fernández, many rumors about this fantastic Argentine player,” spoke the Fuera de juego columnist on his YouTube channel.

“Important to clarify. First point: Benfica wants to keep the player in January, so only crazy things can change this story.

“Second point: it is true that Real Madrid and Liverpool are interested but at the moment they are not negotiating with Benfica.

“Third point: there is a termination clause in Enzo Fernández’s contract and it is 120 million euros.”

That’s a reality that will suit the Reds a lot if questions remain about their chances of signing Jude Bellingham in the summer.

It certainly seems that Fernández is a talent to get excited about with legendary star Leo Messi, one of many eager to offer their applause.

“I am not surprised by Enzo. I know him and watch him train every day. He deserves it because he is a spectacular player,” the former Barcelona star told reporters (via Echo) after Argentina’s 2-0 group stage win over Mexico.

For the price mentioned, it looks like the highly rated player will mostly be looked at as a potential alternative to Jude Bellingham if we manage to pass up the lead in the Englishman’s signature race.

No doubt a fantasy for many Liverpool fans will be the possible acquisition of both phenomenal stars in the summer window, a two-pronged move that would instantly improve our midfield.

However, such a hope may depend entirely on the new owners arriving at Anfield before the end of the season, if we are to finance such a bold strategy.
