“It’s going to end in a good way”: David de Gea provides positive update on contract talks – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has provided a crucial update on how talks on a new Old Trafford deal are progressing.

De Gea spoke to The Manchester Evening News and outlined his desire to end his career at United.

De Gea told Samuel Luckhurst: “Yes, I am very relaxed. Just focus on training and performing to the best of your ability. But, for sure, it will end in a good way.”

The United goalkeeper was asked if he would end his illustrious career at the Theater of Dreams.

He responded by saying, “I hope so. He said this is my club, I’ve been here many, many years and it’s a great honor to be here and I’m very happy here.”

In yesterday’s match against Bournemouth, De Gea kept his 177th clean sheet in a United shirt and ranked among the top 10 players in club history in what was his 510th appearance.

United’s current record for goalkeeping appearances is held by Alex Stepney, who made 539 caps for the Red Devils. De Gea is almost likely to break this record if he remains at the club beyond this season.

The Spaniard opened up to his performances this season. He is enjoying a super campaign, with only Nick Pope keeping a clean sheet more than him.

He expressed his delight at his team’s wonderful performance last night against the Cherries and in particular praised Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof for their contribution.

De Gea said that in the absence of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martínez, Lindelof and Maguire performed well.

“It was a bit difficult at the end, but we controlled the game very well, we played well, a massive three points for us.

“I’m enjoying it because some players, today we changed two center backs and they played very well, so the team is ready to play.”

The 32-year-old also greeted the rest of his teammates and commented that he feels comfortable with everyone. De Gea added that at the moment, under the management of Erik ten Hag, United have a “proper team”.

Finally, De Gea made a call to attention to his colleagues and urged them to treat each game as if it were a final.
