Inter Milan CEO highlights plan for Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is currently on loan at Serie A side Inter Milan. The Belgium international struggled with consistency and injuries after rejoining the Blues during the 2021 summer transfer window.

He played 26 Premier League games during his second spell with Chelsea, scoring eight goals. Lukaku gave a controversial interview in January, criticizing then manager Thomas Tuchel. The interview triggered his relationship with the German coach and he left Stamford Bridge to sign on loan for Inter at the start of this season.

While speaking to Sky Sports (via Fabrizio Romano), Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta explained the plans for Chelsea loan Romelu Lukaku.

He said: “We know that Romelu loves Inter, he loves the club. We can feel that. He is motivated to do great things, he is working to get back in good shape as soon as possible”.

Romelu Lukaku has struggled with injuries this season. He has managed to start just four Serie A games this term, scoring once. The 29-year-old striker has also endured a difficult 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign with Belgium. He played two games in Qatar, without registering a goal or an assist.

He’ll be looking to turn his fortunes around when the season resumes after the midseason break next month. The Nerazurri next meet Napoli at the San Siro in the league on January 5.

Barcelona are close to reaching an agreement with the Chelsea star

According to Spanish team SPORT, Barcelona are in advanced talks with Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante.

The Frenchman is in the final year of his contract with the Blues and is keen to sign a preliminary deal with the Blaugrana in January. Xavi sees Kante as a potential replacement for Sergio Busquests, who is likely to leave Camp Nou at the end of the current season.

Kante is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders of his generation. He joined Chelsea from Leicester City in the summer 2016 transfer window. The Frenchman has made 262 appearances in all competitions for the London outfit so far, registering 13 goals and 15 assists.
