The sporting director of Major League Soccer club Inter Miami recently spoke out about the Lionel Messi transfer rumours.
Hailing from the famous La Masia, Lionel Messi spent most of his career with La Liga giants FC Barcelona.
Messi became possibly the best player in history to play football in a Barcelona shirt. He led the Catalan giants to the top of world football. Messi gave it his all and won possible trophies for the Blaugrana. His love for Barcelona was unquestionable. It was often thought that the Argentine superstar would end his career in Barcelona.
However, things turned out different. Despite Barcelona’s great success on the pitch, the Catalan giants suffered from poor management. As a result, the club had a major financial crisis. This caused him to lose his best player as Barcelona failed to register Lionel Messi’s contract. Messi then joined Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Lionel Messi strongly linked with Inter Miami
After joining Paris Saint-Germain last summer, Lionel Messi got off to a very slow start. The Argentine striker scored just six goals in his debut season in Ligue 1, which can be described as poor by the standards Messi has set for himself.
However, this time, Messi has had a stellar start to the season. The Argentine striker has scored twelve goals in eighteen games. On top of that, he has dished out 18 assists so far. Lionel Messi is currently one of the fittest players in the world.
His contract with PSG is coming to an end. And if the French giants fail to reach an agreement with the Argentine superstar, he will become a free agent. As a result, many clubs have started monitoring his contract status.
Interestingly, the club he has been associated with the most is Major League Soccer’s David Beckham-owned Inter Miami. And now, finally, the sporting director of Inter Miami, Chris Henderson, has spoken about it.
Speaking of Lionel Messi, Chris Henderson said: “I knew Messi was coming! It’s great to be connected with amazing players. I don’t want to comment on someone who is not on our list.”
Meanwhile, Inter Miami head coach Phil Neville was asked about Lionel Messi’s potential transfer during the Englishman’s contract renewal announcement. Like Henderson, Neville also made a diplomatic response.
“I think that’s hypothetical, really. The best player in the world; I am really looking forward to seeing him play in the World Cup, alongside other great players,” said Neville.
Lionel Messi is currently determined to win the only trophy that has eluded him throughout his career: the World Cup. He will lead Argentina in the next World Cup in Qatar 2022.
