London (September 13, 2022): On Sunday, September 11, the IMMAF Asian Federations came together to create an Asian MMA Federation (AMMAF with five regions) to facilitate the IMMAF process of developing the sport in the region in his continued quest for GAISF/Olympic recognition. The proposed new continental structure was unanimously endorsed by the Asian members present. The same development will be implemented in all other continental regions globally.
With Bahrain MMA Federation President Mohammad Qambar appointed as chairman, the AMMAF interim board will be made up of directors from all five regions in shared roles.
The interim board will be supported by the IMMAF board’s Asian representative, Wissam Abi Nader, whose duty it is to help them prepare for an elective AMMAF General Assembly to take place in twelve months’ time. The AMMAF statutes will also be presented for approval at this meeting. AMMAF President Designate Mohammad Qambar (BAH) said: “I would like to thank IMMAF President Kerrith Brown and the Asian IMMAF members for placing their trust in me. I thank His Highness Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad for his vision that has placed Bahrain among the leading countries in the world for MMA, building the confidence of other Asian nations in Bahrain leading the establishment of IMMAF Asia to promote the development of MMA throughout world level”.
IMMAF Director for Asia Wissam Abi Nader (LBN) said: “I believe that Asia has the greatest potential, as evidenced by the medal results of our Asian nations and their vigorous development of the sport regionally and globally. The creation of an Asian federation by our members was inevitable at some point, and I believe that by coming together they can take the sport to another level in Asia and the world. This is a historic event as a first MMA federation for Asia was formed under the only legitimate international governing body in the world for MMA.”
IMMAF President Brown said, “The Asian IMMAF members have greatly contributed to the development of IMMAF and MMA globally over the past 10 years. This has helped IMMAF establish itself as the only legitimate international governing body for MMA recognized by WADA, with half of its membership recognized by their National Olympic Committee or Sports Authority and its track record of developing athletes recognized by the world’s top promoters. Through mutual collaboration and leveraging of resources, our Asian federations will certainly accelerate continued growth across the continent.”
