Ibou Konate falls ill & may be a doubt for World Cup final

Ibrahima Konate is a doubt for the World Cup final on Sunday after falling ill, according to French outlet L’Equipe.

France stars Adrien Rabiot and Dayot Upamecano missed Wednesday night’s semi-final defeat of Morocco due to illness and it is now feared that the Liverpool star, along with Raphael Varane and Kingsley Coman, have also contracted the suspected virus.

This will be a major concern for Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps as his three preferred central defensive options are not in shape and the risk of others falling ill ahead of the clash with Argentina at the weekend.

Konate was immense during the win over the Africans earlier this week and was one of the main reasons the reigning World Cup champions kept a clean sheet.

His performance meant he was all but certain to start the final, but now there will be huge concerns about whether he and the other ailing members of the team will recover in time.

We certainly hope our No. 5 feels better in time to take on Lionel Messi and co.
