“I am trying…” – Gakpo opens up on life in Liverpool

Cody Gakpo has logged four appearances in his first month with Liverpool and it’s been a heady spell for the striker who has yet to leave his hotel room since joining the Reds.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the Dutchman was asked how he is adjusting to life in Liverpool, saying: “From a footballing perspective, it’s a new environment on the pitch, with new players and a new team.

I can say that it is a great group. Every day I really look forward to working with them, training hard and playing the games. I try to adapt as quickly as possible, improve every day and in the end show the best version of myself.

“Off the field, to be honest, I haven’t been in the city that many times yet. Most of the time I have been in the hotel. I’m moving this week, actually. That’s also something I’m looking forward to.’

If the player and supporters were being honest, we would all have loved our new number 18 to have found the back of the net in his first games for the club, but it’s been such a difficult run of form and team availability, that it’s hard to judge too harshly yet.

Hearing that he hasn’t yet found suitable accommodation in the city is also a great indication of how short the time frame has been for the 23-year-old and how long he has left to settle in.

After signing a long-term contract, it’s clear that everyone within the club will have a lot of patience with the former PSV man and given the public praise for the player, it’s obvious that Jurgen Klopp has already been very impressed.

Let’s hope that the second half of the campaign can be much more successful than the first and that our new striker can be instrumental in the coming weeks and months.
