Hugo Lloris set to miss at least 6 weeks with knee injury

Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly be without goalkeeper Hugo Lloris for six to eight weeks due to a knee injury. The BBC claims the 36-year-old Frenchman suffered knee ligament damage during the club’s 1-0 win against Manchester City on Sunday. Despite the problem, Lloris played the full 90 minutes of the game.

Lloris has had problems starting most of the games

While he has performed well for the France national team, Lloris has had some problems with Spurs in recent months. In fact, the goalkeeper currently leads the Premier League in errors leading to goals with four. No other player in England’s top flight has more than two.

However, Lloris continues to be a pillar between the sticks this season for Antonio Conte’s club. They have only lost one of a possible 28 matches in total between the top flight and Champions League competitions during the current campaign. The only game he didn’t play was a 2-2 draw against Brentford on Boxing Day. Fraser Forster made a rare appearance in the club’s starting XI that day.

Forster’s backup intervenes during Hugo Lloris’ injury

Forster will most likely now be the main man for Conte to move forward. Along with the only Premier League game in December, Forster has also made three appearances in domestic cup competitions this season. The Englishman previously suffered a 2-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup in November. However, Forster also kept clean sheets against Portsmouth and Preston in the FA Cup.

Spurs will try to keep the momentum going even without Lloris this weekend. The north London club faces Leicester City on Saturday with a chance of a top four spot in the table. Forster then has the difficult task of trying to stop a powerful AC Milan side in the Champions League round of 16 on Valentine’s Day.

The relatively tough February schedule for Spurs is rounded off with two derbies in London. They will host both West Ham and Chelsea before an FA Cup clash with Sheffield United on March 1.
