Hearn: I Don’t See Oleksandr Usyk Losing a Round To Deontay Wilder

Eddie Hearn, promoter of two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, believes Oleksandr Usyk will take down Deontay Wilder in impressive fashion, if that fight does happen.

Last month in Saudi Arabia, Usyk retained the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles when he outpointed Joshua over twelve rounds to retain the unified straps.

Usyk was then attacked by WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury who wanted an undisputed year-end showdown.

However, Usyk made it clear that he won’t be ready to fight until early 2023.

Because of that scenario, Fury is now in serious negotiations to face Joshua on a date in December.

According to Usyk, he is keen to keep himself busy defending his world titles against Wilder, who will return to the ring next month against Robert Helenius at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The fight will be Wilder’s first ring appearance since losing a shootout with Fury last October in their trilogy fight. Helenius, widely seen as a major underdog, is coming off back-to-back stoppage wins over Adam Kownacki.

Usyk has stated that he plans to be ringside for Wilder-Helenius, with the mindset of potentially facing Wilder if he wins that contest.

Hearn hopes Usyk’s skills pay the bills, but also warns that Wilder has that eraser with his dreaded one-hit power.

“I think [Usyk-Wilder] a good fight i think obviously the saudis will want the undisputed fight [between Fury and Usyk] but that might not happen for a while now if we do the Fury-AJ fight, so we’ll have to see. I don’t see Usyk losing a round to Deontay Wilder, but at the same time Wilder has the power to cause trouble for anyone,” Hearn told ID Boxing.
