“He doesn’t defend always good”

Jurgen Klopp was ready to defend Trent Alexander-Arnold in front of the media, after a turbulent week with England, and spoke honestly about his abilities as a right-back.

Speaking to the press before the Brighton match, the 55-year-old said: “People talk about him all the time and say he’s not a good defender. That is not true, he is a good defender. He doesn’t always defend well, that’s also true.

“We are working on that, he is a young player. He is 23 years old and there is room to improve, definitely. But I think we really only discussed it on the level that we discussed it because the offensive impact of him is very extreme for us.”

It was an honest assessment from the German and when you watch the full press conference it’s clear he had a lot more to say about Gareth Southgate’s questionable management tactics.
