Harry Kane reacts to England World Cup exit

England captain Harry Kane reacted to his team’s 2-1 loss to France and elimination from the World Cup.

Kane was England’s only goalscorer of the night, as his penalty equalized the tie after Aurelien Tchouameni’s first goal. Olivier Giroud’s header gave France the lead again, before England were awarded a penalty due to a foul on Mason Mount by Theo Hernandez.

Kane stepped up to take the penalty and secure a brace, but his effort flew over the crossbar in the closing stages of the quarter-final tie. With the Three Lions unable to record a draw, his departure from Qatar was confirmed when the final whistle was blown.

After the match, the Tottenham Hotspur striker said: “On the night we were probably the team that created the best chances and had good runs of play, but as we know, great games come down to fine details, fine margins and they got it right and we didn’t.”

And he added: “A World Cup is every four years, it is not that we will have another opportunity next year, it is a long time to wait. I’m proud of the boys. We had a great camp and a great World Cup. As I said, it all comes down to one small detail for which I will take full responsibility.”
