Guinean Football Federation issues fresh Naby Keita statement almost two weeks after international call-up

Naby Keita, at this time, will not be able to “fulfill his summons” for the Guinean international team before the international break.

This update comes courtesy of the Guinean Football Federation, with a Liverpool medical report stating that the number 8’s international commitments will come too soon for his recovery.

This follows after a previous call was issued with the nation selecting the midfielder for their upcoming friendlies against Algeria and Ivory Coast.

It’s a relief that common sense has finally prevailed over the handling of our injured star.

The future of the former RB Leipzig player remains somewhat murky, of course, with the club yet to come to a proper conclusion on a possible contract extension.

Our decision-makers are said to be interested in arranging for such an eventuality, though exactly what it will take from Keita’s side to enable such an outcome is unclear.

One of the reported requests was to increase playing minutes, although the 27-year-old’s injury has obviously complicated these matters.
