Graham Potter provides injury update

Reece James suffered an injury in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth in their first Premier League game after the winter break. The 23-year-old started for Chelsea but was forced to leave the field eight minutes into the second half after picking up an injury.

The match against Bournemouth was the first for Reece James since he suffered a knee injury during a Champions League clash with AC Milan in October. He also missed the 2022 FIFA World Cup due to injury, with England manager Gareth Southgate choosing not to risk the Chelsea defender in Qatar.

Reece James has since recovered from the injury and regained his fitness. But he was taken off in the 53rd minute of the game against Bournemouth, shortly after gesturing to the Chelsea bench that he could not continue. He was then taken off the field of play and substituted after receiving treatment on the field of play.

Speaking after the match, Chelsea manager Graham Potter confirmed that Reece James’ injury is in the same place as his previous knee problem.

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has also admitted that Reece James is disappointed with the injury. “No, not really [an update]. Too soon, but it’s in the same area so it’s a concern. We’ll see in the next 24 to 48 hours,” Graham Potter said.

“It’s too early right now. But with the cutting action, she felt something there. We have to keep our fingers crossed at this point. He is disappointed. Of course it is. For now, we just hope it’s not too bad and we’re keeping our fingers crossed.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea edged past Bournemouth to return to winning ways in the Premier League. It was first-half goals from Kai Havertz and Mason Mount that helped Chelsea seal all three points.

Kai Havertz put Chelsea ahead in the 16th minute of the game. Mason Mount then doubled his team’s lead eight minutes later on 24 minutes. Chelsea then saw on the game to pick up a win.
