Graham Potter can get best out of Kai Havertz – Talk Chelsea

England and Germany provided us with some much-needed entertaining football to watch last night during a break in domestic football.

Like or loathe the international break, I think it’s safe to say we all enjoyed watching the six-goal thriller at Wembley last night between two rival nations. However, what made this one even better was because it was a Chelsea acquisition.

Kai Havertz scored twice for Germany, Mason Mount scored for England and Reece James provided an assist.

Graham Potter would have been smiling seeing this, and would also have been closely watching how Havertz played much better in the second half when he was asked to sink deeper, mostly playing a ten role.

The German striker always looks so much better when he plays deeper and doesn’t have his back to goal and isn’t asked to hold on, which is what we’ve seen from him on too many occasions during his Chelsea career. It’s so much better when he’s facing the goal, and scoring that beautiful goal against England last night was a perfect example of this.

Potter will see this and seek to adjust to it, I’m sure. We’ve already seen Havertz operate a bit more in Potter’s first game as Chelsea manager against Salzburg. Havertz wasn’t great in that game, but I think it’s a sign of things to come in terms of positioning him and where Potter will ask him to play. I truly believe that he will bring out the best in Kai Havertz and make him consistently play better.

Sure they can build something good here with Havertz behind Pierre Emerick Aubameyang or Armando Broja. He can play as a second striker and get into the gaps between the lines where he can be more dangerous.
