Graeme Souness gives controversial opinion on Lisandro Martinez – Man United News And Transfer News

Former Liverpool player Graeme Souness isn’t buying the hype around Manchester United central defender Lisandro Martinez.

He is not entirely convinced by Martínez’s physique and predicts that he will be found out soon.

Souness told talkSPORT:

“I just feel like when you’re that size, you’re going to get caught. You will be nailed to the box.”

“I don’t think he’s very fast, I don’t think he’s very good with the ball, but he makes others play and he has a real aggressiveness, which Argentines usually have.”

Most United fans will disagree with the above statement.

Martinez has been one of Man United’s best players this season.

The Argentine’s passing ability is indispensable for Erik ten Hag’s team. His agility and anticipation allow United to play a high defensive line.

It begs the question of whether Souness actually watches him play.

The former Liverpool man went on to say:

“We are talking about the Premier League. he will do it [get found out]. He’s 5-foot-9, and he’s playing against guys who are 6-foot-2, so he’s going to get caught occasionally.”

“He will run from time to time and they will catch him. That’s the way I see it.”

“I can’t tell you about a centre-back in English football, at my time in the game, who has been successful at that size”

“Can I just throw this away? Who was the first person to call Pogba after a pudding?

“I like Martinez. With Martínez, there are many things that I like about him, but I think they will discover it in our football.”
