The German Football Association confirmed earlier this week that Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka will miss their upcoming matches due to Covid-19.

Both players have already left the concentration hotel and will isolate themselves from their respective homes. Hansi Flick has already called up Oliver Baumann to replace Neuer, while Maximilian Arnold will join the team to replace Goretzka.

The two players are understood to have contracted the virus while at the Oktoberfest Beer Festival with the rest of their Bayern Munich teammates on Sunday. This is the second time Neuer has contracted the virus. He too came into contact with COVID-19 when the virus broke out in the Bavarian squad in January.

Gareth Southgate added Jordan Henderson to replace Kalvin Phillips

England manager Gareth Southgate has added Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson to replace Kalvin Phillips in the Three Lions’ UEFA Nations League squad. Phillips recently injured his shoulder while at Manchester City and will undergo surgery in the coming days. It is unlikely that he will be back in full form before the FIFA World Cup.

Speaking about Phillips’ injury, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said (via Sports Illustrated): “I don’t know (how long he’ll be out). I’m not a doctor, but in a good way he can make it to the World Cup. Bowl.

The doctor said that the only solution at this point is to do what he has to do. Now it will not be much, but a little more.”
