Gonzalo Higuain Makes MLS Claim For Lionel Messi

The Argentine superstar would cause an ‘extraordinary revolution’ for soccer in the United States if he joined MLS, according to Gonzalo Higuain. Lionel Messi is widely considered one of the greatest footballers of all time.

The Argentine, along with a certain Cristiano Ronaldo, dominated the world of football for more than a decade. They still continue to play at the highest level, with Messi currently on the PSG roster.

Messi is still among the best footballers in the world. The 35-year-old has looked back on his best at PSG this season after a disappointing 21/22 campaign at the French side. Although a move to MLS doesn’t seem imminent, he has been linked with a move to Major League Soccer before he hung up the boot.

Messi’s former teammate in Argentina, Gonzalo Higuain, believes the PSG star would spark a ‘revolution’ in US soccer if he signed for an MLS team.

“He already trained here [in Miami], knows the place. Leo is like Maradona, he can’t live anywhere. It is his decision, but if he comes here he will cause an extraordinary revolution, without a doubt,” Higuain said.

Higuain, who has played alongside Messi on the Argentine national team, is currently a player for Inter Miami. He has been playing for Inter Miami since he signed with the team in September 2020.

Higuain has so far appeared in 66 games for Inter Miami and has scored 26 goals for the team. Inter Miami is co-owned by soccer icon David Beckham.

Higuain isn’t the only high-profile player currently plying his trade in MLS. Blaise Matuidi is Higuain’s teammate at Inter Miami, while former Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini plays for Los Angeles FC. Gareth Bale also plays for Los Angeles FC.

For his part, Messi has had a great start to the 22/23 season with PSG. The Argentine has so far appeared in 11 games in all competitions for PSG this season.
