Golovkin Says He Felt Sad For Canelo Watching His Loss To Dmitry Bivol

By Robert Segal: Gennadiy Golovkin says he felt “sad” for Canelo Alvarez watching him lose to Dmitry Bivol last May.

Golovkin claims that Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) is a huge star in boxing, and yet he looked so “horrible” in his loss to WBA light heavyweight champion Bivol.

Canelo definitely looked “horrible,” as Golovkin puts it. The downside of Canelo’s performance was his focus on throwing single shots and how tired he seemed after the first two or three rounds.

The Mexican star was not going to beat a fighter like Bivol, throwing only shots because his defense was too good and his punch resistance was also outstanding.

What Golovkin finds amusing is how Canelo thought he had won the fight in the end. Canelo recently said that he believed he had won five or six rounds in the first half of the fight, which explains why he thought he had done enough to deserve the win over Bivol.

“I feel very comfortable because I am very excited about the fight and I feel very good,” Gennadiy Golovkin told DAZN Boxing. “The last 12 years, I’m still a champion at 160. Right now, I have three belts at 160. I don’t stand a chance,” Golovkin said when asked why he didn’t go up to 168 years ago.

“Not everyone fights. Just highlights,” Golovkin said when asked if he watched Canelo’s last fight against Dmitry Bivol. “I am very sad for Canelo. He is a big boxing star and he looked so horrible.

“He is 32 years old. Every fight is different. You wake up and have a bad day,” Golovkin said when asked if Canelo is the same fighter he once was.

“Yes, I hope that everything has changed because Bivol showed everyone that it is possible [to beat Canelo] beat him by decision. I know Canelo doesn’t like the decision. [for Bivol fight]. He says: ‘I win’. Come on guys. Wake up.

“100%,” Golovkin said of whether he won both fights against Canelo. “Judges are judges. A judge gives me; a judge gives Everybody has a different view, a different angle.

“Anything is possible. This is boxing,” Golovkin said of whether he could knock Canelo out. “This is the next level. People say, ‘Why don’t you knock him out?’ This is the highest level. I know him; he knows me. It’s difficult.

“I have plans for 160. So many countries,” Golovkin said when asked how many years he has left in the sport. “We tried. First, my focus is on this fight, and then we’ll talk to you guys later.

“I don’t know. I want to tell you the business side. Who brings a more interesting big name. You got it,” Golovkin said of whether he will stay at 168 after this fight.

“Great fight. He is the biggest gift to the fans,” Golovkin said when asked how his fight with Canelo plays out. ”

“It’s a different school,” Golovkin said of the difference between his coach Johnathon Banks and his previous coach Abel Sanchez.

“I was ready for a third fight. I don’t know why everyone waits four years. I remember my first fight and my second fight, and right now we have a trilogy.

“The trilogy is a completely different story. I hope it’s like the first and second fight. Like a nice big beautiful fight. I have more experience and Johnathon showed me more things. I try to show you this weekend.

“I feel like a 40-year-old man,” Golovkin said when asked how it feels to be 40. “I like my age, my experience, my life experience. I like what I have now. How I feel now. I feel very comfortable.

“I don’t know exactly why,” Golovkin said of why things are sour between him and Canelo. “I shake his hand like it’s all right, and then again, he’s been so quiet for the last four years.

“In the last few months, it starts, it starts, it starts. It’s like your strategy. I don’t know why. Maybe his promoter,” Golovkin said.
