Napoli Transfer News: Serie A club Napoli were unable to complete the transfer of Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas due to a problem between the goalkeeper and Paris Saint-Germain, director Giuntoli confirmed.
Coming from the Saprissa academy, Navas made his senior debut for the Costa Rican club. After his consecutive great performances with the Costa Rican club, Navas moved to play in Spain and signed for Albacete.
He then made his La Liga debut for Valencian club Levante. Navas’ excellent performance earned him contracts from many clubs. However, the Costa Rican decided to join La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Upon joining Los Blancos, Navas became one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He won three Champions Leagues, one League and four Club World Cups with the Spanish team. After spending five years with the Spanish giants, Navas moved to Paris Saint-Germain. He carried his brilliant form and played another Champions League final.
Napoli Transfer News: Giuntoli talks about failed Navas deal
Napoli director Giuntoli has accepted that the Italian club tried to sign Keylor Navas in a deal that includes new PSG signings Fabián Ruiz in the previous transfer window.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Giuntoli said: “We have a great relationship with PSG. They wanted Fabián Ruiz and we wanted Navas, so we tried to reach a swap deal to solve two problems”.
However, the deal never materialized due to “a problem between PSG and Keylor”.
With the arrival of Gianluigi Donarumma before last season, Keylor Navas lost his confirmed place in the starting eleven. This season it got worse when Galtier clearly mentioned Navas as his second goalkeeper in the press conference.
Navas feared losing valuable playing time ahead of the World Cup in Qatar. So he tried to leave PSG and Napoli was the team most interested in the 35-year-old goalkeeper. However, the deal never materialized.
For its part, PSG completed the signing of the Spanish international Fabián Ruiz, 26, for an amount of 30 million euros. The Spanish midfielder has already made his debut with the club and has played 3 games.
