Giannis Suffers Sprained Wrist vs Bulls, Could Miss All-Star Game

Giannis Antetokounmpo walked out of the Bucks’ win against the Bulls on Thursday night after sustaining a wrist injury, and a subsequent scan revealed a sprain in the two-time MVP’s right wrist.

Antetokounmpo suffered the injury early in the second quarter and was forced to leave the court in clear discomfort after landing awkwardly on his right wrist after blocking a Coby White shot.

The Bucks superstar headed straight through the tunnel to the locker room and didn’t return in a 112-110 win against Chicago. Giannis underwent an X-ray almost immediately after the game that revealed a sprained wrist for the All-Star starter, raising new questions about whether he’ll be able to start Sunday’s game.

The game wasn’t all bad news for Giannis and Milwaukee, however, as they won their 12th consecutive NBA game with Antetokounmpo also passing Paul Pressey to become the Bucks’ all-time assist leader.

Milwaukee head coach Mike Budenholzer was hopeful Giannis’ injury isn’t as serious as it seems, however, he said the team will continue to evaluate it going forward.

“We’re hopeful, the X-ray was clean,” Budenholzer said after the win. He has a sprain. We’ll just, I think, see how he feels tomorrow, see how he feels over the next few days, and continue to evaluate him.”

Giannis has appeared in the All-Star Game on seven separate occasions, being voted the Eastern Conference captain in three of those years. This Sunday’s game was to be the third time Giannis has led the team, however his wrist injury leaves big doubts about the availability of the Bucks star on Sunday.

There are already three All-Star starters who will miss this weekend’s game through injury, with Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and Zion Williamson all ruled out for Sunday’s game. Joel Embiid was one of the replacement starters for All-Star weekend, however he, too, is questionable with a foot injury.
