Gennadiy Golovkin Not Retiring After Canelo Trilogy On Saturday

By Jim Calfa: Gennadiy Golovkin says he doesn’t plan to retire after his third fight with Canelo Alvarez this Saturday night on DAZN pay-per-view.

First off, Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) says he is open to a fourth fight with Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) should he emerge victorious.

Even if I don’t win. Golovkin says he has plenty of options available for fights in Australia, the United States, Mexico and Kazakhstan. Likewise, Golovkin points out that he has titles at 160, so defending them would be an option.

Losing is not on Golovkin’s mind as he is coming to win and will look to hand Canelo his second straight loss at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Golovkin, 40, is moving up in weight from 160 to 168 for this fight to challenge Canelo for his undisputed super middleweight championship.

“The trilogy is a big event and it’s hard to get a rematch. Me being in the trilogy means I’m in demand, and this is possibly the biggest fight in boxing,” Gennadiy Golovkin told the media, speaking with the help of an interpretation.

“Hype is part of the business, and we are both professional athletes. I don’t think it affects us in any way. We know our job and we go out and do our job,” Golovkin said.

“There is a difference between 160 and 168. At the same time, the most important thing is that I am facing Canelo. It’s me against Canelo. We fought at 160 and now we fight each other at 168.

“It’s the same ring and the same rules for both opponents and at the same time I have to say I feel great at 168, just like I felt great at 160.

“Yes, I moved. There are no excuses. In fact, we know each other very well and it’s going to be a very tough fight for both of us. We will stay in boxing when it is in demand when there are offers.

“I have certain plans without a doubt, regardless of the outcome of this fight. If a fourth fight is offered, I’ll say, ‘Why not?’ If the people want it. Don’t forget I have three belts at 160.

“So many plans. Mexico, the United States, Australia, maybe Kazakhstan. Come on guys. So many options. I retired three years ago. Right now, I’m staying here,” Golovkin said when asked if he would retire after Canelo’s trilogy on Saturday.
