Gary Neville saw Klopp come close to doing something completely new in his post-Wolves press conference

Jurgen Klopp was left visibly shaken on the bench by a 12-minute slump early in the game with Wolves that saw Liverpool concede twice at the Molineux.

Dissecting what went wrong in his post-match press conference, it didn’t escape Gary Neville’s attention that the manager came close to apologizing for the period in question, one the German deemed “not allowed”.

“Defensively, they were chaotic. Individually, collectively, it was too easy to play against them,” the Monday Night Football co-host spoke on the Gary Neville Podcast (via Sky Sports).

“They’re not doing perfectly well either, [Cody] Steel, [Darwin] nunez and [Mo] Salah hasn’t hit it off yet as one of the three forwards and that could take some time.

“The rest of the team is in a mess and they are conceding very bad goals. It was almost the first time I see after a match that Jurgen Klopp almost apologized.”

After so many alleged wake-up calls throughout the campaign, fans will rightly wonder when they will witness some consistency in performances and, more importantly, results.

An apology for another poor performance in the English top flight would not have been necessary from the manager personally, who must have been wondering how much attention his players had paid during the previous week’s training sessions.

What is worrying for Liverpool is that we have caught the deadly double combination of leaked goals at the back without providing a genuine threat at the other end of the pitch.

The contention at the top may come down to the pair of new faces we have brought in in Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez, both of whom seem to have a bright future at the club.

Elsewhere though, it looks like more tweaking will be needed, perhaps starting with Nat Phillips at the back and bringing Fabinho or Jordan Henderson back to fine form, to stop the slide down the league standings.
