Gareth Southgate’s treatment of Trent Alexander-Arnold is downright callous

Danny Rose has played more minutes for Gareth Southgate than Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Trent has never made consecutive starts under England manager.

Frankly, Southgate doesn’t like or rate him, and the fact that Trent still shows up for international duty to be treated like that says a lot about the right-back as a person.

Trent has more Ballon d’Or votes than the rest of the England squad combined. He is the only current English footballer to have been named in the FIFA Team of the Year, and it has happened twice.

Trent knows he won’t be playing, but still reports for England duty and acts as a mannequin in training sessions where Southgate sets up England’s defensive setup.

What task should that be?

At this stage, it doesn’t look like Scouser will be selected for the World Cup squad. England’s loss is probably Liverpool’s gain.

“We have a great team with us and we have 4 right-backs who are of great quality. Right now Trippier is playing exceptionally well and Reece James is one of the standout players in the league,” Southgate told Channel 4 live before the 3-3 draw with Germany.

Trippier’s Newcastle have won one game in seven. James’s Chelsea was so bad that Thomas Tuchel was fired…

But Trent can’t fight back! yell… Neither does Harry Maguire. Kyle Walker was also wrong recently. Luke Shaw sucks. John Stones is the only player in the England backline who can claim to have had a good season so far, so the idea that he’s fit doesn’t make sense, especially as Trent was left out of England teams. England when he was tearing Liverpool apart in periods when we were the best team on the planet.

Is personal. It is insensitive. It does not make any sense.

It could be argued that Southgate has the right to pick any player he wants. It’s his team. He is the manager. But he has never given her a chance. Trent has played 17 of 54 games since he debuted. He has played 1,222 minutes, which averages 13 games. 13 games in five years. That is not an opportunity.
