Gareth Southgate has once again praised defender Harry Maguire.
The Man United captain has endured a difficult 18 months. Heavily criticized by fans and pundits for some questionable performances, the former Leicester City centre-back, who has also fallen out of favor with the club’s new manager Erik Ten Hag, needs a good World Cup to reignite his stagnant career.
However, reaffirming his admiration for Maguire, England’s Southgate, who has continuously supported the 29-year-old, believes his loyalty is paying off.
Maguire has arguably been the most consistent player for the Three Lions during the Qatar 2022 World Cup group stage.

Resolute behind, the Red Devils captain has helped his country keep consecutive clean sheets, first against the United States and then against Gareth Bale’s Wales.
Now safely into the knockout rounds of the prestigious tournament, the Three Lions are in the process of preparing for a round of 16 tie against Senegal on Sunday night, and speaking of Maguire in particular, Southgate, who spoke to the media earlier of the important clash, he admitted that the defender’s time at Old Trafford has given him a number of challenges.
Southgate on Maguire: “He’s a good player. He knows that we completely believe in him. He has had great performances. He’s had a bit of bad luck with changing coaches and philosophies (at MUFC) and injury. He has wasted time. But he felt the love of the fans the other night ”. #ENG
