Garcia raises Salah concern and suggests the Egyptian could benefit from a ‘rest’

Luis Garcia believes he has noticed a difference in Mo Salah’s style of play this season.

Liverpool have made a slow start to the campaign and last season’s Premier League top scorer has netted just twice in seven appearances in all competitions.

Following our goalless Merseyside derby clash with Everton, Jurgen Klopp dismissed claims the Egyptian has been told to operate from a wider position this season, but Garcia has weighed in on the current form of our No. eleven.

“You can see and I am sure Mo Salah knows himself very well, you can see that he is not getting past players one on one, he is not running into the box, he is far from the box, too wide at times. He is not close to the box where he is very dangerous,” Garcia told ESPN FC (via Rousing The Kop).

“I think Mo Salah needed a break [against Napoli]. It is very important that the players understand that it is very difficult to play the 63, 70 games that they played last year. There will be rotations because there is a World Cup in between and some players are going to need a break”.

Liverpool played in every possible game last season as they chased a historic quadruple and many claim the players are feeling the effects of that this term, but Salah had a full pre-season under his belt and so I would expect him to be in the best conditions at this time.

He has been on the fringes for most of the games this season and if that is not the result of a tactical adjustment by our German coach, does it mean that the defenders have learned how to deal with the former AS Roma player?

With his strength, pace and dribbling quality, it is very difficult to keep him quiet, so we hope he can get back to full form very soon.

It will be interesting to see if Klopp considers a slight change in tactics from our front line in the coming weeks so that we regain the spark that has so often blown teams up.

With the exception of the 9-0 thrashing of Bournemouth at Anfield, we haven’t been able to create chances as often as usual and don’t seem to have the advantage lately.

Despite our disappointing start to the campaign, we are just six points behind league leaders Arsenal and five behind Manchester City.

We need to stay positive because there is still a lot to play for on all fronts!
