Gakpo believes he’ll soon be showing Liverpool fans what he’s capable of and reveals which Reds teammates are helping him settle at Anfield

Cody Gakpo believes he is establishing himself quickly at Liverpool and will be hoping to show what he’s made of during the Reds’ second half of the campaign.

The Dutch international tasted success for the first time at his new club earlier this week after Jurgen Klopp’s side fought their way to a 1-0 win at Wolves.

And with Chelsea leading the FA Cup winners at Anfield tomorrow, our new striker thinks it won’t be long before he registers goals and assists in the red shirt.

“I feel that coming,” he told Liverpoolfc.com. “Of course, in a new team you have to adapt to the style of play and how other players around you play.

“You have to get to know each other. That’s what I’m trying to do and I feel like it’s getting better every game, and it’ll be even better in the next one. [against Chelsea].

“We have a very good group, with a lot of quality and we are very close together. Everyone is determined to win and perform for the club and for the fans.

“When you win a game at Wolves, that’s good for everyone, for the mood, and that’s something we can build on. We gain confidence.

“We have to keep working hard, improving every day and the victories will come.”

The 23-year-old had been in excellent form with PSV before his departure at Anfield earlier in the month.

The versatile attacker has registered 13 goals and 17 assists for Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s side this season (in all competitions) and clearly knows how to make things happen at the top of the pitch.

He explained how the English game differs from what had been customary in his homeland.

“The game is really fast and I like it,” said our No. 18. “The biggest difference is the speed of the game. It is faster than in the Eredivisie.

“Normally, at PSV, we would have the build-up and it takes a long time before we reach the finish line. Here, we try to go on goal as fast as possible, in a good way, and the opponent too.

“There are a lot of different things than in the Netherlands, but it’s up to me to adapt as quickly as possible.”

The £37m man must be given time before we can hope to see him perform at his best.

Adjusting to life in the Premier League and learning what Jurgen Klopp wants from him is certainly not easy and it is important that too much is not expected of Gakpo so early in his career with the Reds.

Feeling at home at a new club is something some players struggle with, but our new signing has revealed which players are helping him establish himself the most in a ‘warm club’ like Liverpool.

“Everyone is really nice,” Gakpo added. “Virgil, I’ve known him for a little longer, from the national team. He is helping me a lot, and Curtis too. Only with little things can they help me. I really appreciate that from all the guys, so I’m very grateful.

“It’s really great to be here. It is a very nice and warm club”.
