Mikel Arteta has said that Gabriel Jesus’ injury is a ‘hard blow’ for Arsenal and that it is a challenge that they have to overcome.
Gabriel Jesus suffered a knee injury during the FIFA World Cup 2-22 Group G match of the Brazil team against Cameroon. He was ruled out of the remainder of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and has since undergone surgery on his right knee.
That means Arsenal could be without Gabriel Jesus for up to three months, and Mikel Arteta admits the Gunners will miss the Brazilian attacker until he recovers from injury and returns to action.
Mikel Arteta also admitted that Gabriel Jesus suffered a ‘major injury’, but did not put any time frame on the 25-year-old’s recovery.

“We are going to miss him for a while. But the season has challenges, that’s a challenge we have to overcome as well. If you want to be at the top, you know that you are going to have to face these kinds of challenges.
“With Gabi it is very difficult to set a time. Obviously, it was a very important injury and, knowing him, I prefer not to give dates.”
Gabriel Jesus, who joined Arsenal in the 2022 summer transfer window, has been a key player for Mikel Arteta. The Brazil international has featured in 20 games in all competitions for the North London outfit so far in the 22/23 season.
Of those 20 appearances, 14 were in the Premier League, where he has started every game the Gunners have played in the 22/23 season. He has also scored five goals and recorded seven assists for Arsenal in the 22/23 season.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are at the top of the points table in the 22/23 season of the Premier League. Mikel Arteta’s men have 37 points in 14 games in the English top flight. They enjoy a five-point lead over defending champions Manchester City, who sit second on 32 points.
