Frank Warren Gives Fury Vs. Joshua Update On Negotiations

By Charles Brun: Tyson Fury co-promoter Frank Warren reports that contracts for the Anthony Joshua fight are on the way.

Warren, however, says that the Fury vs. Joshua is not a done deal until the contracts have been signed.

There’s always the chance that when Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, looks at the contract, he might find something to disagree with.

As it is, some would argue that Hearn should have negotiated more to get the Dec. 17 date Joshua wanted, as well as the 60-40 split for the rematch, if there is one.

It’s only fair that if Joshua defeats WBC heavyweight champion Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs), he gets the split 60-40, given that he is the champion.

If Hearn had opted out of negotiations, he likely would have gotten everything he asked for, with a Dec. 17 date and a 60-40 split for the rematch.

Fury was pretty desperate for the Joshua fight, and would have given just about anything to make the fight happen. Look at the reality of the situation.

The only thing Fury had to look forward to if he didn’t fight Joshua was the difficult puzzle that IBF/WBA/WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk would present in the first quarter of 2023.

Given how slow and heavy Fury has become over the last two years, there’s a good chance Usyk will take him down. Even if he didn’t, what significant money fights are there for Fury?

No one wants to see Deontay Wilder meet Fury in a fourth fight, and one-punch wonder Andy Ruiz Jr. hasn’t redeemed himself after moving up to 283 pounds and losing all three of his titles in his rematch with Joshua in 2019.

“Contracts are on the way,” Frank Warren told talkSPORT of the Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua fight scheduled for December 3.

“But I’m not going to go into too much detail about this because we saw what happened last time with people making statements and stuff, and it all fell apart.

“This fight won’t start until it’s signed, but everyone wants it to happen,” Warren said.

“Then hopefully, very quickly, we can get past it, but until it’s signed, it’s not in place.

“I’m excited about this as a fight because I always felt like Tyson got the beating from AJ, and now we’re going to find out if we get through it,” Warren said.
