Former Juventus youngster Manolo Portanova convicted of gang rape

In the last year or so, it has been revealed that former Juventus player Manolo Portanova is facing serious charges related to an alleged gang rape with the victim being a minor at the time.

According to La Repubblica via ilBianconero, the court convicted the 22-year-old and sentenced him to six years in prison.

However, this is only the first degree of justice, and the player’s legal team will surely appeal the sentence.

Juventus fans would remember Portanova for his time with the first team during the brief reign of Andrea Pirlo, when he managed to get a few starts.

The versatile midfielder began his career at Lazio before joining the bianconeri in 2017. He made the move to Genoa in January 2021 in the controversial swap deal that saw Nicolò Rovella sign for the Old Lady.

This unpleasant situation leaves the Grifone with a big dilemma. The club had already faced public outrage for allowing Portanova to play during the trial.

So even though he’s now been convicted, Genoa thinks they could eventually face trouble if they decide to ban him only to have him found not guilty by a higher-tier court.

Therefore, the source claims that the player could still play for the Serie B team until his guilt is proven once and for all.
