Former Juventus president believes Ronaldo’s arrival prompted Marotta’s exit

When Cristiano Ronaldo made his revolutionary landing in Turin, fans and observers alike believed that his arrival would mark a new beginning for Juventus.

But while the general feeling was that CR7 will take the club to the highest levels, especially in Europe, his transfer now symbolizes the start of a chaotic period for the club.

Of course, none of this is the fault of the Portuguese, since the culprits are those who were in charge of the club at the time, starting with the president Andrea Agnelli.

But during Ronaldo’s introduction, one man seemed to be slightly less enthusiastic than those around him. Of course, we are talking about former Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta, who left his position shortly after.

Beppe was usurped by his former student Fabio Paratici, who orchestrated Ronaldo’s transfer, gaining Agnelli’s favor in the process.

So, as former Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli says, the arrival of the former Real Madrid superstar was the main reason that led to Marotta’s departure from Juventus.

“When Paratici, who reported to Marotta, took the rabbit out of his hat [signing Ronaldo]Everybody was moved”, said the former skipper in an interview with Calciomercato via ilBianconero.

“However, Marotta was not thrilled. She said it was a mistake, which broke her relationship with Agnelli.

“I think that Marotta left precisely because of a disagreement with Agnelli over the purchase of Ronaldo. Then came Paratici, who started shooting from left to right, ushering in a new era.”

Cobolli Gigli was appointed president of Juventus in 2006 after the Calciopoli scandal. He left the post in 2009, succeeded by Jean-Claude Blanc.
