‘For me…’ -Robertson admits one thing about Darwin Nunez really frustrates him

Andy Robertson admitted he couldn’t help but be frustrated with the fixation on transfer fees when discussing Darwin Nunez’s start to the season.

Having signed for £64m, a figure that could rise to a club record £84m once add-ons are factored in, there has been great anticipation on the former Benfica man’s shoulders.

“For me, when you look at the statistics and what Darwin has done, I think he’s been quite successful,” the Scotland international told the Liverpool Echo.

“I understand why people get hung up on transfer fees and things like that, but for us as players it’s frustrating because we don’t choose fees. I don’t sit here and say I’m a X million pound player or whatever, it’s just the price the club is willing to pay for you.

“So for us, as players, we forget about the money. That depends on the clubs, on the agents and we cannot control that as players. And obviously when you have a big price tag on your head, with the way football works, there are expectations and things like that, but I think he has scored goals and he looks good.

However, with 11 goal contributions in 18 appearances (in all competitions) this term, the Uruguayan has not disappointed in the famous red shirt, particularly towards the end of the first half of 2022/23.

Some will no doubt point to Uruguay’s disappointing World Cup campaign as a sign that the 23-year-old has regressed once again, although, if his cameo against AC Milan is any indication, that position is simply far from over. the truth.

There is no doubt that Núñez has had a somewhat difficult start on Merseyside, although there is plenty of evidence available to suggest that his Anfield career will prove to be a resounding success.

The return of full competitive action cannot come before our eyes and we are excited to see what the striker can achieve while his confidence is through the roof.
