Five-man injury update as Ajax declare they ‘want to go for the win’

Liverpool are set to take on Ajax in the midst of a physical crisis but will be buoyed by the return of a number of players, the home side also experiencing a couple of injuries within their squad.

As reported by the Liverpool club website: “The hosts have midfielder Kenneth Taylor and defender Devyne Rensch available for selection again, Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder confirmed in his pre-match press conference.

“Edson Alvarez is also in a position to participate, but Ahmetcan Kaplan remains on the sidelines.”

The Dutch side know they need a win to prevent Jurgen Klopp’s side from advancing to the round of 16 and their boss Alfred Schreuder has explained how they will approach the match.

The 49-year-old said: “In the end it’s about the points. We have to believe that we can do it and show healthy courage and aggressiveness.

“We will do everything possible to win until the end. If we have to be satisfied with a point, then that is what we will have to do. But we want to go for the victory as long as possible.”

Dusan Tadic’s recent return to the squad will also be a positive addition to the Eredivisie side and there is expected to be an intimidating atmosphere inside the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

It’s up to the Reds to stand up to the supporters and hopefully put on a convincing performance that gets us through to the knockout rounds.
