Financial ‘caveat’ in Liverpool’s Bellingham interest revealed by Pearce

Jude Bellingham has long been linked with a move to Liverpool and as next summer’s transfer window continues to draw closer, James Pearce has provided a somewhat worrying update on the midfielder.

Speaking on ‘The Athletic Football Podcast’, the Bath-born journalist said: “When you talk to people in Liverpool, the caveat is: will the numbers be too big?”

It was also reported that as well as interest from Jurgen Klopp, Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid are also ‘in the running’ for the 19-year-old.

It is a concern that a higher level of performance in the Bundesliga this season, and even possibly further improving his World Cup status in Qatar this winter, could lead to a higher price tag for the Borussia Dortmund teenager.

It’s certainly no secret that we’re believed to be interested in the 19-year-old, but if the list of suitors increases and the price increases, that could spell trouble.

Whether or not you believe FSG can and will fund such a deal, the salary structure at Anfield is so set in stone that we could easily be excluded from this transfer.

Many will argue that it’s not just one player we need at this position and with the futures of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain up in the air as well, it could be a very busy summer.

However, with just under a year to go until that window closes, these stories will certainly continue to circulate and will be for a long time to come.
