Fight Date – Gallant Gary Sweeney gets busy

Gary Sweney [5(4)-0] is making up for lost time.

The Ballinrobe cruiserweight hadn’t been seen in the ring since December 2017 and had become a forgotten man before making a comeback earlier this summer.

The younger brother of Michael ‘The Storm’ Sweeney rejoined the sport and the boxing public when he defeated Pawel Strykowski in a Neilson Boxing promotion at MECA, Regent Circus in Swindon on June 4.

The fight was not just a one-off, as ‘Gallant’ confirmed a second fight for September 10, but a proposed fight at Holte Suite, Villa Park was canceled along with all boxing fights that weekend due to the passing of of the Queen.

The 28-year-old did not wait long to announce a new fight date and confirmed to Irish-boxing.com that he will switch leathers on October 21 at the Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport.

The fight will be used to further oil the machine as the Connaught fighter continues to work his way back up to cruiserweight, where he can finally build on the positive start he had over 5 years ago.
