Fight between Arsenal and Manchester United for Joao Felix’s signature – Man United News And Transfer News

While performances have definitely improved compared to last season, the lack of goals is severely holding back Erik ten Hag’s new Manchester United.

Statistics show that the Red Devils are the second lowest scorers in the top half of the Premier League table.

While Marcus Rashford has suffered bouts of profligacy, Anthony Martial’s injury problems have restricted him to just two Premier League starts.

And after the acrimonious departure of last season’s top scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo, the need to strengthen up front has been amplified even more.

United’s extensive search for forwards

United have been linked with a host of striker options, including Cody Gakpo, Goncalo Ramos, Rafael Leao and Memphis Depay to name just a few.

Another name that has gained ground since the World Cup began is that of Joao Félix. United fans will know him well from his exploits with Atlético Madrid last season in the Champions League, eliminating United in the round of 16 stage.

But after a complete break in the relationship with manager Diego Simeone, the club have confirmed their intention to let the disgruntled attacker leave in January.

According to the Daily Record, “Atletico Madrid are prepared to let Joao Félix join an English Premier League club on loan next month, provided that the financial Fair Play costs of the Portuguese international’s contract are covered in his entirely by their new employers.

Duncan Castles also writes that the Madrid giants are considering a loan fee of £8m plus the player’s salary to be paid in full. There would be no contractual purchase option.

Interestingly, according to le10sport, “the former Benfica star is at the center of a final match between Arsenal and Manchester United. This case is entering its home stretch.”

Arsenal leading United right now

It was previously reported that as many as five clubs are pursuing the signing of the Portuguese international. But it appears that most clubs have resisted their wage demands and Paris Saint-Germain have indicated they are unwilling to add in attack.

This leaves United to battle it out with the Gunners to secure the 23-year-old’s signature. However, Castles has hinted that the North London giants are currently leading the chase.

“Arsenal, currently five points clear of Manchester City in the Premier League table, are interested in signing Félix following the loss of Gabriel Jesus to knee surgery.

“Manchester United are considering Felix as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, whose contract was terminated by mutual consent before the World Cup final.

“Discussions with Arsenal are understood to be further along at present,” the Daily Record report added.
