FIFA responds to the latest Super League verdict

FIFA has responded to the latest recommendation by Advocate General Rantos of the Court of Justice of the European Union, which gives them hope of punishing Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona for starting a competition while still competing in UEFA or bringing back rebel clubs.

The protagonists of the Super League were hoping that AG would back them in their recommendation so that they could break the monopoly of UEFA and FIFA.

While the AG agreed that they could start a new competitive competition, they insist that they can be fined if they continue to compete in UEFA.

In response to the development, FIFA said via Tuttojuve: “FIFA welcomes the opinion issued today by Advocate General Rantos of the European Court of Justice in which he confirms the position and legitimacy of FIFA and the UEFA to approve any new football competition. Similarly, the General Counsel believes that penalties may be imposed for contests that do not meet the approved licensing criteria.

Juve FC says

FIFA and UEFA are the first winners, and this verdict will strengthen them in their attempt to kill off the Super League idea.

The protagonists cannot afford to lose the money they earn with FIFA and UEFA when their competition has not held up.

This could force them to return to the ECA and drop the idea altogether, but they will still be hoping that the court itself will side with them when their verdict is read next year.
