Manchester United’s search for Olivier Giroud has suffered a blow.
Yesterday, it emerged that Giroud was on United’s radar as the club intensifies its search for a reliable striker to step in and lead the line.
Erik ten Hag has made no secret of his desire to acquire reinforcements in the future. Giroud was linked as a legitimate target in this regard.
It was indicated that while United are interested in France’s all-time top scorer, the player’s main intention is to stay at the San Siro.
If the Serie A champions were satisfied with the 36-year-old and wanted to keep him, Giroud would stay.
Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on United’s interest in Giroud.
Romano comments: “Despite the links with Manchester United, AC Milan cannot lose Olivier Giroud now.”
“Their [losing Giroud to United] seen as impossible.
“Giroud is expected to sign a new agreement in the coming weeks or months after a verbal agreement was reached in December.”

Beyond Giroud, the Red Devils reportedly have two other forwards on their roster: Kolo Muani and Marcus Thuram.
Romano indicated yesterday that United do have Muani on their list, but as in the case of Giroud with AC Milan, Eintracht Frankfurt is also determined to keep the player at least until the end of the season.
United were said to be preparing a January offer of up to €60m for Muani.
Regarding Thuram, Ten Hag is reportedly a fan and a contract proposal has already been made with United willing to avoid competition for his services.
