Manchester United reportedly had a strong chance of signing Julian Alvarez.
According to Fabrizio Romano, former United caretaker Ralf Rangnick was keen to land the 22-year-old.
He stated: “The only player Ralf Rangnick recommended to Man United had serious possibilities of achieving it was Julián Álvarez”.
“Rangnick really wanted it, but United decided against it.”
Álvarez eventually ended up at Manchester City, much to the disappointment of United fans.
Despite not being a starter in most games, he has shown his quality on the pitch.
The Argentine striker has all the attributes to become a future superstar.
Under Pep Guardiola, Álvarez will likely become a lethal center forward in the Premier League.
United are currently struggling to score goals.
Anthony Martial’s absence through injury and Cristiano Ronaldo’s poor form have plagued the Red Devils at a crucial time of the season.
The United manager would have loved to have another option like Álvarez in the squad.
The 22-year-old is quick and highly technical, fitting the mold of an Erik ten Hag striker.
His low center of gravity allows him to be strong on the ball, using his explosive dribbling to fool defenders.
It will be necessary to see if the club decides to rub the toes of the feet in the next market of winter by a forward.
