Liverpool have been characteristically quick in their onslaught for Manchester United’s top target Cody Gakpo and the deal is set to be completed in the very near future.
Fabrizio Romano is now reporting on Twitter that the Dutch international is due to sign a five-and-a-half-year deal (keeping him at Anfield until summer 2028).
Cody Gakpo is currently in Merseyside for the bulk of medical tests before joining Liverpool, the plan confirmed. The deal will be completed soon. ???????????? #LFC

The Merseysiders are still expected to do more business in the current window, most critically, for a midfielder, although Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez is not under consideration, according to David Lynch, despite reports to the contrary.

While it’s certainly a deal many Liverpool fans will be delighted about, it comes as a surprise for a couple of reasons: firstly, the clear need for reinforcements in midfield, and secondly, the prior understanding that Gakpo was destined for Old Trafford.
Predominantly a left-sided striker (albeit capable of crossing the forward line), the 23-year-old is nonetheless a welcome addition at a time when Liverpool attackers have actively succumbed to injury.
With Luis Díaz (25), Dawin Núñez (23) and, now, the PSV star (23) set to grace the front three for years to come, our recruiting team deserves a lot of credit for protecting the future of the forward line.
