UEFA recently added a Nations League competition to an already hectic schedule that was heavily criticized by many players and managers. Now they are going to change the format of the UEFA Champions League, in which the teams will play even more games throughout the season.

Finally, to clarify this hectic schedule, the English Premier League has decided to take a drastic measure.

FA Football News: FA Cup and League Cup to see big changes

According to The Times, the English Premier League will have a meeting with all its shareholders on Wednesday around a ‘New Deal for Football’.

This new deal will see the FA Cup eliminate third and fourth round replays from the 2024 season onwards.

Meanwhile, another radical change will allow European Competition clubs not to take part in the League Cup competition or send their Under-21 team.

With the upcoming winter World Cup in November, questions have already been raised about this season’s schedule. The World Cup has marked the third, fourth and fifth days of the League Cup. Meanwhile, the future of the FA Cup is currently uncertain. The clubs have no idea how the FA will end these two tournaments in due time.

Other reports suggest that the League Cup may be scrapped entirely. There is also a proposal to move all FA Cup games to midweek.

No more parachute payment

The change of formats of both cup competitions is not all that will be discussed in the meeting. In addition to these changes, the Premier League is thinking of doing away with parachute payments. Parachute payments right now help relegated clubs.

The Premier League is thinking of distributing the payment evenly to all clubs in the lower leagues.

As of now, most clubs in the lower leagues are ready to receive the changes. In the meantime, the EFL has not yet been approached regarding these issues, but they are ready to discuss changes.

All that said, these proposals are currently at a very basic stage. The Premier League will have its meeting with all shareholders on Wednesday. However, even if things change, it will only be implemented from the 2024/25 season.
