Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano names “brilliant player” who could be ideal signing for Graham Potter at Chelsea

New Chelsea manager Graham Potter would do well to raid his former club Brighton for the transfer of exciting young midfielder Moises Caicedo.

That is the opinion of Fabrizio Romano in his latest CaughtOffside column, although he points out that so far there have been no talks for the player, and that the Brighton project deserves respect.

Although Romano thinks it could be good for Potter and Caicedo to work together again, the transfer expert isn’t sure if Brighton will be ready to sell the Ecuador international this January.

The Seagulls lost Yves Bissouma and Marc Cucurella this summer, while Potter recently left them to replace Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea manager, so losing a talent like Caicedo midway through the season would be another huge blow.

Still, the Blues could use some strengthening in midfield, and the 20-year-old could be an excellent long-term option at that position, as well as being a player Potter will know well.

Speaking of the situation, Romano said: “At the moment there are no negotiations for Caicedo, we will see what happens in the coming months.

“I think it would be great for them to work together again, Caicedo is a brilliant player, but the Brighton project deserves some respect, so I’m not sure they are willing to let Caicedo go in January.”

Chelsea had a busy summer bringing in the likes of Raheem Sterling, Wesley Fofana, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and others, and one imagines that ambitious new owner Todd Boehly might still be trying to invest in the next transfer window.
